How to Clone a Website to a New URL

Discover how to instantly clone static websites for prototyping, learning, and customization with our built-in clone tool.

Have you ever seen a beautiful webpage and wished you could instantly copy its structure to use as a starting point for your own project? Whether you want to study how a specific CSS grid was implemented, or you just need a quick boilerplate, knowing how to clone a website to a second URL is a powerful tool in a developer's arsenal.

The htmlhost Clone Feature

We built a dedicated feature to make this seamless. Instead of manually downloading HTML files, fixing relative asset paths, and re-uploading them, our platform automates the process for static sites.

  1. Navigate to the Clone Tool in the htmlhost dashboard.
  2. Enter the URL of the static website you wish to clone.
  3. Click Clone Website.

Behind the scenes, our system fetches the HTML, rewrites asset URLs (like images and external stylesheets) so they don't break, and packages it into a new, editable project hosted on a brand new .htmlhost.co subdomain.

Using the AI Visual Editor to Customize

Once cloned, the real magic happens. You aren't just left with raw HTML. You can open the cloned site in our built-in AI visual editor.

Simply click on any element on the cloned page—a headline, a button, or a pricing card—and type what you want to change. "Make this button rounded and blue" or "Rewrite this headline for a bakery." The AI will instantly rewrite the underlying HTML and CSS, allowing you to rapidly morph the clone into your own original design.

Ethical Considerations

It's important to respect copyright. The clone tool is designed for prototyping, learning, and modifying open-source templates. Do not clone proprietary websites with the intent of passing them off as your own or phishing users. Always use this superpower responsibly!
