Free Color Palette Generator & Extractor
Whether you're starting a new brand identity, designing a UI, or choosing colors for an illustration, selecting the perfect color scheme is critical. Our Color Palette Generator takes the guesswork out of color theory by algorithmically generating harmonious palettes instantly, or extracting them directly from your reference images.
How to generate a color palette
- Hit the Spacebar or click Generate to create a new random palette instantly.
- See a color you like? Hover over it and click the Lock icon. When you generate again, that color will stay pinned while the rest of the palette harmonizes around it.
- Change your harmony rules using the dropdown (Analogous, Monochromatic, Triadic, etc.) to control the mood.
- Click any color's hex code to view its advanced details (RGB, HSL, CMYK) and fine-tune it using the color picker.
Extracting Colors from Images
Have a reference photo with a beautiful vibe? You don't need to manually color-drop every pixel. Simply paste an image (⌘V) directly onto the page, or click Extract to upload one. Our k-means clustering algorithm will instantly analyze thousands of pixels and extract the dominant, mathematically ideal color palette from the image.
Understanding Color Harmony
- Analogous: Colors that are next to each other on the color wheel. They match well and create serene, comfortable designs.
- Monochromatic: Different shades and depths of a single base hue. Incredibly clean and elegant, perfect for minimalist UI design.
- Triadic: Three colors that are evenly spaced around the color wheel. Tends to be quite vibrant, even if you use pale or unsaturated versions.
- Complementary: Colors that are opposite each other on the color wheel (e.g. Red and Green). Creates extremely high contrast and high impact.
Export Your Colors
Once you've found the perfect palette, click the Export button to bring it into your workflow. You can export the palette as a high-resolution PNG, an SVG, or copy the values instantly formatted as CSS Custom Properties (Variables) or a Tailwind CSS configuration block.
